IF YOU ARE NOT A CANADIAN CITIZEN YOU MUST HAVE A VALID PASSPORT TO TRAVEL TO  THIS YEAR'S AUGUST CAMP!

TRANSPORTATION

Campers flying to Camp will be met at the Calgary, Alberta, Canada (YYC) airport. We will use our rental vehicles to take campers to and from the airport on arrival and departure Saturdays only.  The vans will depart the airport on your arrival Saturday as they fill beginning at 11 a.m.  If possible please do not plan to arrive at the airport prior to 11:00  on your arrival day as departing campers need to return vehicles before we can load up and leave.  After retrieving your luggage please proceed to the Avis waiting area in the Rental Car Centre.  Look for someone with an AMC sign.  Camp is about a 3 hour drive from the airport with no stops.  We normally make a QUICK stop somewhere en route for lunch and for people to buy whatever few supplies (i.e. happy hour provisions) they may want for Camp.  Canmore and Field are the best places to stop.

MONEY:  ATMs are probably best to get Canadian currency.  Check in the airport upon arrival for ATMs.  Remember many credit cards now add a fee for foreign use.

If you plan to use our August Camp van transportation to get from the airport to Camp:

  • PLEASE RETURN the TRANSPORTATION SHEET directly to the TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR.  Please include your COMPLETE FLIGHT  SCHEDULE.  Please do not send incomplete forms.
  • Come to the rental car lounge any time between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on your arrival day so we can load vans and get you to camp as soon as possible. We try to accommodate unanticipated flight delays or schedule changes. If arriving by 2 is a problem you may need to consider arriving a day early and spending the night near the airport in Calgary (also expedient in this day of lost/delayed luggage.)
  • ON YOUR TRAVEL SATURDAY ONLY,    please call the number given below if your flight has been delayed, changed, rerouted or for other travel Saturday emergencies. This is NOT the emergency number for camp.  Have the appropriate number handy on your travel day.  If you call before 10a.m. and get no answer keep trying as the phone may be en route to the airport and in a no coverage area.

            **On July 17 and 24 call 203-641-9128

**On July 31 and August 7 call 914-420-3620

  • On your DEPARTURE Saturday we strongly encourage you to book a flight departing mid-late morning.  If you choose to book an early morning flight you might consider booking it for Sunday morning and spending Sat. night in Calgary.

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS AT CAMP:

However you plan ultimately to arrive at our campsite on the Beaverfoot Lodge property,  if you want to be considered for approval as a volunteer van driver while at Camp you MUST fill out VOLUNTEER DRIVER MVR FORM.  This form authorizes the AMC's insurance carrier to review your driving record.  These forms must be returned to the TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR no later than June 1st.

DIRECTIONS FOR THOSE TRAVELING TO CAMP ON THEIR OWN

From the airport take Hwy. 2 south to the TransCanada Hwy (Rt. 1).  Go W about 150 miles toward  Golden, BC. (When approaching any National Park stay to the right.  There is no payment needed if you are a through traveler.) Before you get to Golden townsite the turnoff for Beaverfoot Ledge is on the left just after the start of a construction zone.  Watch for a sign advertising Wet and Wild Rafting.  Turn left onto Beaverfoot Rd.  There are three single lane bridges on this well maintained gravel road.  Shortly after turning there is a busy railroad crossing so be sure to stop and check both directions.  After 7 miles the Lodge is on the left.  Follow signs for August Camp.  If stopping for supplies Canmore and Field are the best choices. (see Beaverfoot website for a map).

CAMP MAILING ADDRESS will be:  Your name,  AMC August Camp,  c/o Beaverfoot Lodge, Golden, BC V0A 1H0, Canada

CELL PHONES:  Check with your provider about coverage in Canada.  It may entail an extra charge.  Cell phone coverage, as always at Camp, will be spotty.

CAMP PHONE NUMBER:  While our emergency number as listed in the "All You Need to Know" packet is still functional, the Lodge has said you can leave the Lodge number with those at home if you need to be reached in an emergency.

That  number is 604-629-5741.
